FAQs

The Rivet is engineered to be operated comfortably by a single person, regardless of their experience level.
Ease of Use: It is lightweight and easy to tow. A single person can move the Bowlus on a level surface, and the AeroMove system allows you to position the trailer into a campsite or parking spot perfectly without a spotter.
Security: The aircraft-grade aluminum shell and commercial-grade lockable front door provide a secure “home on wheels.”
Independence: With its extensive off-grid capabilities, solo adventurers can boondock in nature while enjoying full amenities like the ensuite bathroom and induction kitchen.

Plan Ahead: Always have a primary route and a backup overnight spot. Use trusted apps like Harvest Hosts or Hipcamp to find vetted, scenic locations.
Stay Connected: Share your real-time location with a friend or family member via apps like “Find My Friends.”
Trust Your Intuition: If a location doesn’t feel right, use the Rivet’s agility to move on. Your intuition is your best travel partner.
Solo-Friendly Camping: State and National Parks are excellent for solo travelers due to the presence of park rangers and well-maintained grounds.

Bowlus owners have several layers of protection to ensure peace of mind:
Hitch & Coupler Locks: Always use a heavy-duty hitch lock to prevent unauthorized towing.
AeroMove Locking: The AeroMove system can be used to lock the wheels in place, providing an additional mechanical theft deterrent.
Smart Security: The integrated Starlink system allows you to easily connect Wi-Fi-enabled security cameras that can alert your phone to movement around the trailer.
Parking Smart: When staying at rest stops or public areas, choose well-lit spots near other RVers and keep your blinds closed at night.

Bowlus is the original riveted aluminum travel trailer, predating all others with a story spanning over nine decades. Founded by Hawley Bowlus (who built the Spirit of St. Louis), the brand applies aerospace engineering to land travel. Unlike “assemblers” who buy 3rd-party parts, Bowlus manufactures over 70% of its components in-house at its Oxnard, California facility to maintain total quality control.

Bowlus uses 2024 T3 “Alclad” aircraft-grade aluminum, which is vastly superior to the 3000-series alloys used by other manufacturers.
Tensile Strength: 2024 T3 has a rating of 427 MPA, compared to just 186 MPA for standard RV aluminum.
Durability: This higher strength makes the Bowlus significantly more resistant to environmental damage, such as hail, which often pockmarks softer trailers.
Monocoque Design: The strength of a Bowlus comes from its skin, not a heavy steel frame. This “space frame” approach allows the trailer to be roughly half the weight of equivalent-sized RVs.

Authentic Aircraft Rivets: Bowlus uses structural 2117 aluminum alloy rivets (identifiable by the dimple in the head). When bucked, the temper of the rivet changes to match the 2024 aluminum.
Precision Spacing: Rivets are spaced exactly 1 inch apart for all 5,000 fasteners. This ensures the tensile strength is continuous across the seam, similar to an aircraft wing.
Hand-Bucking: Each rivet is set by a two-person team (a riveter and a bucker) to exacting tolerances of 1,000th of an inch.

Insulation: Uses rigid polystyrene insulation (moisture-resistant and high R-value) rather than cheap fiberglass, preventing the “musty” smell and mold common in other RVs.
Material Integrity: No laminates or “fake wood” photos are used. The interior features real Baltic birch plywood and anodized aluminum.
Four-Season Protection: All water lines and systems are contained within the insulated shell. Combined with hydronic radiant heating and heated floors, it is a true winter-capable RV.

No other RV undergoes this level of scrutiny:
252-Point Inspection: Every unit completes a massive checklist and a road test before leaving the factory.
Triple Water Testing: The shell is pressure-tested for leaks at multiple stages—after initial riveting, after vent installation, and after final door fitting.

Hi everyone, welcome back to our Bowlus channel. If you’re new here, I’m Geneva, CEO of Bowlus, and I love exploring the world solo. Today I’m sharing my ultimate guide to traveling as a solo woman in a Bowlus travel trailer. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or just starting your journey, this video is packed with tips for staying safe, organized, and making the most of your adventure. Let’s hit the road.

So, why choose a Bowlus for solo travel? First, it’s lightweight and easy to tow, even if you’re new to towing. It doesn’t require more than one person to operate it. It’s easy for a small person to move it. And we have features like Aeromove to help you easily put the Bowlus in its campsite. It also has off-grid capabilities so you can boondock in nature with full amenities. It’s incredibly secure with a strong aircraft grade aluminum shell and commercial-grade lockable entry door, you can feel at ease wherever you park for the night.

Safety is always a top priority when traveling solo. And here are my top tips for peace of mind on the road. First, plan your route and have backup plans to stay overnight. Use apps like Harvest Host to find safe scenic spots. Stay aware and trust your gut. Move on if a place doesn’t feel right. Your intuition is your best travel buddy. Keep in touch. Share your location with trusted friend or family member using apps like Find My Friends.

Have safety essentials. I like to carry bear spray and a whistle. Many also consider personal alarms. Secure your Bowlus at night. I use a coupler lock and a hitch lock and always lock the doors. It’s simple but effective. AeroMove can also operate to lock your wheels. Pets. I like to travel solo with my 100 lb dog, Bear, and he’s got a loud bark.

Where should you take your Bowlus? Well, here are my favorite types of places to camp solo. State and National parks, which are great for well-maintained campsites with rangers nearby. BLM Land and boondocking. This is more remote with epic views and total solitude. Just be sure to check on regulations. RV parks and resorts. These offer full hookups and a community vibe if you want to meet other travelers. Harvest hosts or hip camp, a cool way to camp at wineries, farms, museums, on private property.

Traveling solo isn’t just about being safe. It’s also about having a fantastic time. Here are a few ways to make the most of your journey. Staying organized, a place for everything and everything in its place. Less stress and more fun. Easy and delicious solo meals. I prep simple, healthy meals that I can cook quickly in my Bowlus kitchen. I also enjoy local restaurants along my way. Document your journey. Keep a travel journal or take photos to remember your adventure.

I know safety can be a big concern and it’s understandable. Your Bowlus isn’t an investment, your home on wheels, and you want to feel secure no matter where you park. Here are some additional safety measures. First, lock the door always. It sounds simple, but even if you’re stepping away for a few minutes, lock the door and your hitch and or coupler.

Use a hitch lock and AeroMove. A heavy-duty hitch lock makes it nearly impossible for someone to hook up your Bowlus and drive away. Adding Aeromove, which can lock your wheels, provides additional protection. Install a security camera. A small battery or solo Wi-Fi enabled security camera can be easily connected to your Starlink, and many can also alert you to movement.

Some other things to consider. Park smart. Choose well-lit, busy areas when boondocking. When overnighting at a rest stop or parking lot, park under lights and near security cameras. Park near other RVers. Stay low-key, close blinds at night, and don’t share your exact location on social media in real time.

All of this said, I’ve had nothing but positive camping experiences, and met some wonderful people along the way. And that’s a wrap on my guide to solo travel in a Bowlus.
